Year 3
  1. spell high and medium frequency words
  2. recognise a range of prefixes and suffixes, understanding how they modify meaning and spelling, and how they assist in decoding long complex words
  3. spell unfamiliar words, using known conventions including grapheme/phoneme correspondence and morphological clues
Term 1
  1. to consolidate knowledge of adding suffixes and to investigate the conventions related to the spelling patterm -le
  2. to spell regular verb endings and to learn irregular tense changes

Extend the knowledge of spelling strategies and apply to high frequency and cross-curricular words

Term 2

  1. to know what happens to the spelling of nouns when -s is added
  2. to understnd how words change when suffixes are added

  2. to develop knowledge of prefixes to gnererate new words from root words
