Babcock Boosts Reading Recovery
Teachers from 5 Surrey schools, trained by Babcock’s Reading Recovery Teacher Leader, have been presented with awards by the International Literacy Centre, part of the UCL, Institute of Education in their 2016 Reading Recovery awards ceremony in London.
The Reading Recovery awards celebrate and honour practitioners who have made outstanding contributions to children’s literacy through Reading Recovery – a school-based, short-term intervention designed for children in Year 1 who are the lowest literacy achievers after their first year of school. The awards recognise the teachers’ wider impact on literacy within their schools. Heather Retter, Babcock’s Reading Recovery Teacher Leader, has supported a great number of schools over the years to develop their Reading Recovery Practice and train colleagues to secure specialist teacher status.
Four practitioners have been awarded Reading Recovery Teacher of the Year 2016:
Joanne Bedford – Sythwood Primary School
Linda Daniell – Maybury Primary School
Barbara Simon – Town Farm Primary School
Helen Sweeney – Kingfield Primary School
One practitioner secured the award of Reading Recovery School of the Year 2016:
Helen Kelsey, St Matthew’s CofE Primary School
